diego espinosa (b. 1978)
percussionist - actor - dancer
He is a member of the Atlas Ensemble (conducted by Ed Spanjaard), Ziggurat (Theo Loevendie), The Electronic Hammer, Slagwerk Groep Den Haag, Soil, PI, Ensemble Insomnio and the Ear Massage Percussion Quartet which won 3rd prize in The International Percussion Competition in Luxembourg 2005.
Espinosa also plays often for the Nieuwe Ensemble, Ives Ensemble.
He has played as a soloist with The Atlas Ensemble in the Concertgebouw (Ed Spanjaard 2005),The Koninklijk Conservatorium Orkest (West Montgomery 2001 and Micha Hammel 2002), Orquesta de Pamplona (Josep Vicent), Orquest de las Arts (Josep Vicent 2005) and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (Yan Huichang 2006), Nederlands Kamer Orkest (Jurgen Hempel 2007).
Many pieces have been written for him including solos for percussion in combination with orchestra, ensemble, percussion quartet, tape, live electronics and other media like dance and video.
He holds a Masters Degree from the Koninklijk Conservatorium in The Hague (where he studied with a scholarship from FONCA), The Associated Board of The Royal School of Music and CIEM in Mexico. He realised studies in hand percussion in Senegal and Cuba. His professors include Wiim Vos, Luuk Naagtegal, Hans Zoderop, Aly NÕDiaye Rose and Mario J‡uregui.
He has been involved in performances of all styles reaching audiences in Asia, Europe, North and South America, in such festivals as: PASIC, Percussion de Montevideo (2004-2006), TIPC 2002-2005 (Taiwan Percussion Convention), Forum (Barcelona), Gaudeamus Festival, Castell de Perelada, Settembre Musica, Holland Festival, Foro de Musica Nueva Manuel Enriquez, Perkusja, Steve Reich Festival, Centro Historico, Musica y Escena, Rumor, Distronics, State X, Uitmarkt, Lowlands, Cadance, Inauguration of SARC recorded and broadcasted by the BBC.
He was a member of the Amsterdam Percussion Group from 2002-2005 with whom he recorded the CD called Release.
