juan parra cancino (b. 1979)
Composer, Improviser, Live Electronics Performer, Guitar and Stick player
Studied Composition in the Catholic University of Chile.
His Compositions, that include pure acousmatic and electroacoustic mixed media for solo instruments and ensembles have been performed in Europe, North and South America in festivals such as Primavera en La Habana (Cuba), Aural Tick (Houston, US), Sonorities (Belfast, UK) and have been selected and recently awarded at the Bourges Electroacoustic Music Competition of 2003 and 2004.
As a guitar player he has participated in several courses of Guitar Craft, a school founded by Robert Fripp, becoming part of various related guitar ensembles such as the Berlin Guitar Ensemble, the Buenos Aires Guitar Ensemble and recently, the League of Crafty Guitarists under the direction of Hernan Nunez.
As an improviser he has collaborated with a number of musicians, including Richard Barrett, Cesar Villavicencio, Leon Speck & Ernst van der Loo and Jan Trutzschler. His recent collaborations/projects include live electronics for dance, silent movies, and performances with musicians like Johan Van Kreij, and the Improviser's Ensemble.
He is co-founder and active member of The Electronic Hammer, a Computer and Percussion Music Ensemble devoted to the promotion, creation and diffusion of the music of the XXI century. They have support of The Gaudeamus Foundation and The Institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
